Necrotic Wednesdays

Thank you to everyone that came out to the premiere of Necrotic Wednesdays on September 5th. It was a pleasure to give away passes for Mordant Productions events as an extra special thank you to everyone that supported us.

For the love of all that's unholy, please pass this information to everyone you think would be interested!

And just because we love you so much, we added the following performers. Think gothic Bronze (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and you'll know exactly what we're doing. So don't miss these performances!

September 19th
Dance on your graves and call up the elder gods with Pittsburgh's own Narse and Nyarlathotep. If by some chance you aren't familiar with these bands, check them out at
http://www.myspace.com/narse
http://www.myspace.com/nyarlathotep

October 3rd
Local up and coming electro-rock musician Sachem Orenda
http://www.myspace.com/sachemoclark

October 17th
Pittsburgh's premiere performance for local ethereal vocalist Tiffany Apan (similar to Sarah Brightman, but making her own mark). If you don't remember her from her years of attendance at Ceremony, you may be familiar with her work in various horror films.
http://www.myspace.com/tiffanyapanmusic

Just to recap, here's the deal for Necrotic Wednesdays:

First and Third Wednesdays we cheerfully (and metaphorically) vivesect our djs for your pleasure.
The party is at Howler's Coyote Cafe in Bloomfield (address below)

Party starts at 9pm
Cover: $3 for over 21/ $5 under 21
Drink specials: $1.75 Yinglings
Various refreshments (soda, juice, water) available for everyone

Debauchery, decadence, and finery are highly encouraged.

Our resident DJs are:

DJ RIPpee (aka Chris Rippee, almost as exciting a resurrection as the second coming of Christ)
DJ E-Z Lou of Upstage 80s fame and is currently djing at Peter's Pub on Thursdays and at Smiling Moose on Sundays
DJ Hates You who's been kicking ass at Belvedere's 80s night on Thursdays
DJ Triceratop (member of WreckCreation but also known for his tri-hawk at Ceremony)

We're looking forward to the great opportunity Howler's has given the scene to have something different to do in the middle of the week. This is also an excellent bridge for even more exciting events in the future.

Howler's is located in Bloomfield at:
4509 Liberty Avenue
Pittsburgh, PA 15224
It's right near the Bloomfield Bridge. Parking is available at Shur-Save's parking lot across from the Bloomfield Bridge.

That's it!

Joe Presley
Mordant Productions
http://www.mordantproductions.com
http://www.myspace.com/mordantproductions

Attrition show promo and show news

Thanks to everyone who came out for the madness that was Upstage Nation this past Sunday at the Smiling Moose. This was our first promotional event for the Attrition show in Pittsburgh and I wasn't sure what to expect.

Because there were bands on the first floor, the djs, Nate and Lou, were upstairs. I have to say I was really impressed by Nate's and the crowd's energy. By midnight, Nate whipped the crowd up to a frenzy for a dance competition to determine who would win a pair of tickets. We originally intended to give away two tickets but the energy of the dancers inspired me to give away two more tickets; the dancers' energy were really impressive. There is just something awe inspiring about seeing a group of people combine their energy with music. At it's best it's magical. Whatever creates it, it was there last Sunday for Upstage Nation at the Moose.

In other news, we have added another ticket outlet. Hocus Pocus in Oakland have Attrition show tickets for sale. Hocus Pocus has always been really supportive of the scene and we're proud to work with them.

Below is more information about the Attrition show. You can buy tickets at http://www.mordantproductions.com, Eide's Entertainment, Slacker, Dave's Music Mine, Brave New World, and Turtle Island.

If you are interested in vending or donating prizes, please contact us at mordant@Mordantproductions.com.

Joe
Mordant Productions

Pittsburgh, we did something amazing last Saturday. Thanks to you, we showed that the goth scene in this city is truly wonderful and amazing. You and over 240 of your friends came out to party with Voltaire, Agnes Wired For Sound, Between The Waters, and of course the Necropolis dancers. Because of your spirit and your support, we were able to again put Pittsburgh on the map. Rest assured that we will continue to produce more events. Please check out our livejournal site for more information on future events.

Thanks should also go out to Voltaire, for an amazing performance and for all the variety of entertainment he's produced for us throughout his career. We can't wait for his next visit to Pittsburgh. Not only is he an amazing performer, but he's a wonderful gentleman to work with.

I would also like to thank Agnes Wired For Sound and Between The Waters for rocking. Keep an eye open for their new material. Thanks to the dancers for being so lovely and entertaining.

Finally, I want to thank the many people who have worked very hard for the past year to make every Mordant Productions show a fun time. I can't begin to name them all, but A LOT of people put in time and effort to make this show a success.

You guys were awesome!

Joseph Presley
Mordant Productions

Fliering outside of Coheed and Cambria concert

Some of you may be interested in knowing what it's like to flier for your own show. This past Sunday I went down to the Chevrolet Ampitheater to hand out handbills. I knew this was going to be an interesting experience because this is the first time I fliered a non-goth show, although I believed that there were going to be plenty of goth friendly folks. I also learned that it's amazing what a person will do when it's their own show on the line. Spending 3 hours in the rain to hand out handbills to strangers is not something I ever thought I'd do.

The show's headliner was Cohead and Cambria. The openers were Eighteen Visions and Avenge Sevenfold. I had seen some fliers around town for the show, but the one that really got me interested was the full color poster I saw for Eighteen Visions. The band looked cool. I also remembered somebody that I met at Elise's Playground told me that they were really into Avenge Sevenfold. It seemed like even though this wasn't a goth concert, there would be plenty of goth friendly folks down there. Plus, with Ceremony going 21+, I needed to seek out places to get the word out about Dead Man's Party to the under 21 crowd.

I got down to the ampitheater at about 8:45, which was after the concert started. The music was enjoyable and was loud enough to be heard outside in the parking lot. Unfortunately it was raining and at some points it was raining very hard. There was no way I was going to be able to hold my umbrella and hand out fliers at the same time. Fortunately I have long hair and was wearing my leather trenchcoat. My fliers were in my leather bag, so I was protected from the worst of the rain.

Since this was my first time down to the ampitheater, I didn't know what kind of crowd to expect. I saw some people trickling out after Avenge Sevenfold started, and it was fun to see parents taking their kids to a metal show. I was able to hand out plenty of fliers, but I could tell the crowd was going to be out of control once the show let out. To really flier properly, I needed at least one other person to and ideally there would be four people total. Once the concert let out, it was a little overwhelming but I just handed out fliers as fast as I could.

By this point, I've gotten down my opening pitch. I ask people if they like goth music. That gives them an opportunity to say yes or to pass me if they're not into it. If they are really interested, I'll chat up the show but usually people just want to leave. If there are people who look as if they would be particularly gothy, I'll try to make sure I talk to them.

As was usually the case, I was the only person handing out fliers at the concert when I first started. The surprising thing is that around 10:45PM, I was joined by other people promoting the Pink Spiders show and the Panic at the Ranch show (which has Dresden Dolls opening, so that should be a good show). I chatted with the lady handing out Pink Spiders stickers and was surprised to find out that it was her job to hand stuff out.

I actually ran out of the handbills at this show and started to hand out a few of the 8.5 x 11's when the crowd thinned out. I believe I handed out about 500-750 handbills. I'm not exactly sure, but I believe that out of 2000 handbills, I have about 500 left.

After calling a friend for a ride home, I walked across the parking lot and noticed some of the handbills thrown on the ground. While I hate to see that, it's also to be expected. I definitely placed more fliers into people's hands than were on the ground. Fliers are disposable and the whole point is to get them in the hands of a lot of people. I would expect only 2-5% of the people I fliered to come to the show.

All told, it was a very satisfactory evening. I was able to hand out a bunch of handbills, which means that I'm not completely crazy for printing out so many handbills. I met some cool people, whom I hope to see at the show. I believe it was Rachel who stayed at the very end, had enjoyed the show, and was kind enough to offer me a hug. How cool is that?

Bella Morte and ThouShalt Not headline at Memorial: Dead Man's Party

Raise the dead by partying down at Memorial: Dead Man's Party!

This past Wednesday, I was able to confirm the bands and venue for Mordant Productions' first all ages event: Memorial: Dead Man's Party.

Bella Morte and ThouShaltNot headline. The opening band is to be announced. DJ Imperium will spin until the doors close. Cover is $10 in Advance and $12 at the door.

This will also be the first opportunity for fans of ThouShaltNot to get their new album "Land Dispute" which will be released on May 23rd. Yes, you'll be able to get it more quickly than ordering it on Amazon or Isotank.

This is a funeral party themed mini-festival at the Oakland Cafe (located at 219 Atwood St., Pittsburgh).

The exact time needs to be confirmed but it will be in the evening and will run until 2am. No need to worry about working the next day since it's Memorial Day Weekend! The Oakland Cafe will is waiting for its liquor license, but it should be a full service bar by the time our show starts.

These bands haven't been to Pittsburgh in a few years and it's really exciting that they will be able to play an all ages show in Oakland, Pittsburgh.

Joe

Mordant Productions

Dead Man's Party

The theme for the first event has been decided. The title is "Memorial: Dead Man's Party". It should be the coolest funeral party in town. The target date is May 28th, which is the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend.

Thanks to everyone who helped me fine tune the concept. The final line up and the venue still needs to be confirmed. I have some bands and djs lined up, but I don't want to announce anything until all the details are nailed. I'm trying to confirm the venue by the end of March.
